I've read a lot of you have tried using rubber bands as a distraction technique. It didn't help me, but I've found one that does help a little. Have you ever heard of a product called hot hands? They're sort of like the heat patches you can get from the pharmacy, but these are like little sandbags that get warm to the touch when exposed to air. They're not hot enough to burn, or even close, but they are warm enough to be uncomfortable when placed directly on the skin of a sensitive area. When I'm feeling like I need to SI I put one on each wrist held in place by my shirt sleeve. It's enough to stop me a lot of the time.
