I was diagnosed with scoliosis when i was about 12 or 13. My doctor put me in a brack brace and although I hated it, it seemed to hold it in place. My curve still got worse but not drastically. When I was 15 it measured at 47 degreees and he told me to wait five years and then come back for another check up. I just went back about a month ago and it is now at 48 degrees. My doctor explained to me that I'm borderline for having surgery and that the ultimate decision is up to me. I'm not sure what to do though. I have a significant hump on my upper back and my rib cage is also rotated. I would love to be able to get rid of these problems but can not justify having such a complex surgery for a cosmetic reason. However, it also hurts alot when I bend over at a desk or something for too long. It was particularly bad when I tought vacation bible school, bending over their desks. I'm studying to be a teacher so I know this could cause me a lot of problems in the future. I've also heard though that after surgery pain can be worse. what do you think?
