I'm curious, with the harrington rod, is it safe to run/jog? I do have a sight forward bend, does anyone else? I hate to see a dr. just to ask if this is an o.k. excersize... it's been 25 years since operation. thanks for any info.

i have read a lot that people even right after surgery can sometimes exercise so im sure 25 yrs later it would be okay:) i think they would just want to wait until the fusion healed but after 25 yrs it should have by now.

thanks, I've always worked out and stayed in shape, I just didn't know if it was too jaring or jerkey on the rod.

I asume running is fine, as long as it doesnt cause you more pain than normal. I have ran but dont like it. I also had a punchered lung from my scoliosis so i get short of breath really easy. But sure running is ok

I too have tried to stay in shape with exercise, yoga, and Pilates. I have the Harrington Rod in my lumbar region. I find that when I run the pounding on the pavement/treadmill aggravates my back. My chiroprator recommnended the elliptical machines for a good cardio workout instead of running...

Do you still have your rods? I had mine taken out three years after surgery and have had no problems with jogging, hiking, swimming...I also have the slight forward bend...my husband keeps reminding me to stand up straight...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
