a lot of people have said that when they had the op they had their rib or hip etc used for fusion but what does that mean? and what does it do? does this mean you have to have an operation on your rib or hip etc.?

I think that menas that instead of going in through your back, they can go in through your rib, like under your arm, or through your hip, but i never heard of the hip one...

When I had my surgery they took the discs out of my back and put bone grafts from my hip in place of the discs. The bone grew and created one solid bone. It is an operation on your hip also and is painful for a long time, but it allowed me to have the metal rods taken out after the bone had grown together.

They took a rib, and ground it up, they than used that to help fuse my spine to the rods. It does require an additional cut, from about the middle of you back to under your breast area. I would recommend the rib as apposed to the hip(butt) area.
