Sciatica is a term meaning pain that originates from compression of the sciatic nerve, the longest and largest nerve in the body. If the sciatic nerve is pinched or compressed (perhaps by a bulging disc in the low back) a patient may experience leg pain--the classic symptom of sciatica.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I not only have Sciatica, I also have PD. So, I do a lot of stretching.(wouldn't be able to move if I didn't.)
I do modified leg lifts, stretch my legs out really good. Also, I stretch my back by standing back from a wall, then lean into it and then there is one othe thing that I do that helps a lot and that is to lay on your back, doing one leg at time, tighten butt muscles, pull toes up and toward you to tighten all those muscles, lift leg about 8 to 10 inches and hold for count of 15 or 20. I do a lot more stretches than this, but I think these help the most for the Sciatica.
There is one other thing I do, on a real regular basis and that is to put ice on my back several times a day. Don't know if you do this, but if not, please, try it. Helps so much with the tightness and the pain.
One more suggestion, if you can , before you even try to get up in the morning, stretch and use ice for about 2o minutes. Helps me quite a bit.
Hope I have given you at least a little help.

Sit in a chair. Lift your right foot up and place it on your left knee. Bend forward as though you're going to hug your right knee. You'll feel the stretch in your hip and lower back. Switch sides, repeat for a total of 3 times on each side, 3 times/day.
Thank you all!
My sciatica pain was very severe and caused me to become bedbound before I had back surgery for a broken disk a year ago. I suffered with this pain for a year and a half.
I go to the YMCA and swim in their indoor heated pool which helps me out so much. I try to go at three times a week.
Good luck!
