Sciatica Support Group
Sciatica is a term meaning pain that originates from compression of the sciatic nerve, the longest and largest nerve in the body. If the sciatic nerve is pinched or compressed (perhaps by a bulging disc in the low back) a patient may experience leg pain--the classic symptom of sciatica.

I'm new the DS and thought I'd post this to see if anyone else has experienced this.
I suffer from really tense muscles in my lower back, small amounts of stretching pull it out and relieve the pain. But several times a year for a week or more i have the most excruciating pain shoot down my left thigh.
It's like someone has stuck a knitting needle into my thigh and fed electricity into it.
I've booked myself into a physio and doc to get a check up, does this match anyone else's experience.
Any help and advice is most welcome

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I've been suffering from Sciatica for over a year (my sedcond tiome over a year). I think it's kind of unusual - fortunate - you only get the pain for about a week. I usually do a series of stretching and try to really work out my lower back and abs. I found the my lower back pain (that feeling of weakness) is also due to weak abs. At the most I'll take a little motrin to relieve the pain, but NOT during exercising because I want to feel the warning of pain incase I am doing a wrong movement.
Anyway, good luck
Mike
