Sarcoidosis Support Group
Sarcoidosis is an immune system disorder characterised by non-necrotising granulomas (small inflammatory nodules). Virtually any organ can be affected, however, granulomas most often appear in the lungs or the lymph nodes. Symptoms can occasionally appear suddenly but more often than not appear gradually.
Well first, as you have probably been told or read, Prednisone can certainly cause weight gain.. in fact most people on prednisone gain weight....(at least all those I know)....
As to water, I'm guessing you are referring to edema? I believe Prednisone can contribute to that also, but depending on the severity (i.e how much fluid you are retaining)...You should probably ask your doctor the next time you are in ....or if you notice a substantial increase in your weight.(like a couple of lbs in a day)...call sooner.......Prednisone is great stuff, and bad stuff at the same time.....side effects can be worse than the disease! But, for Sarcoid, it's all we have right now.
Let me know how you are doing.....if it is the prednisone, there isn't a lot you can do about it....for what it's worth, I've gained about 40 lbs ...some due to prednisone, some due to Edema from the Cor Pulmonale....
Well, best regards,
Steve D.
