Sarcoidosis is an immune system disorder characterised by non-necrotising granulomas (small inflammatory nodules). Virtually any organ can be affected, however, granulomas most often appear in the lungs or the lymph nodes. Symptoms can occasionally appear suddenly but more often than not appear gradually.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Thanks Willemina....just so Sugarhoney can reach me, I think my user name is Steve11456.
In any event, I have Sarcoidosis, was dx'd two years ago and have been on Prednisone 20 to 60 mg a day since....right now on 25mg/day.
Side effects as you can read on the internet and certainly hear from others on this site are tough...weight gain, mood swings (especially early on), long term use (usually at high dosage) can lead to osteoporosis (which I now have) and cataracts (which I also have)...
As I say, there are more side effects that you can find on sites like WebMD.com and others...but hopefully at a lower dose such as 2-4 mg, you might escape some of them.
We are all different and all react differently to many meds and treatments. It also obviously depends on what type of Sarcoid you have; mine is in my Lungs and Lymph Nodes (possibly the spleen)...but as you probably know, it can be found in any organ and in about 50% of patients it goes to the eyes also...
One encouraging thing about Sarcoid is that in many patients, it does go into spontaneous remission after a few years...unfortunately for me, I am not one of those....hopefully you are. IN my case it was Advanced and chronic...and as you know, incurable.
If you have any specific questions I would be happy to try to help. There are not many procedures nor medications that I have not had and I would be happy to share my experiences with you.
Best of luck,
Steve
