I usually only take prednisone during flares and it works great. Since my husband and I are going to start TTC soon, I have stopped my Remicade infusions and have been taking only Prednisone since Monday. My doc wants me to eventually get down to taking only 5-10mg per day. He told me for the first 5 days I can take 20-25mg and decrease it slowly after that, but he doesn't want me to take any more than 25mg daily. I've taken 25mg for the last 3 days and I still feel horrible. So I guess my question is, has anyone ever been on Prednisone only? How high was your dose? Did it work for you?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
It may be that you need to take it a couple more days to have it kick in. Is is making you hyper at all and keeping you from getting decent sleep? Sometimes it does that to me and that, took, can add to your pain and or fatigue.
My rheumy doc. has me on a prednisone taper now; here is my drill:
I take the 5m tablets as follows: 20mg for 4 days, 15mg for 4, 10mg for 4, 5mg for 4. It usually takes 3 days to kick it for me but I'll take hydrocodone pain pills in between if it's still not working. If your prednisone doesn't kick in in a day or two, please call your rheumy doc. and let him/her know.
On ther reverse side will you please tell me if you ever took Enbrel and what you experienced and how soon after taking the Remicade did you feel relief?
Hope you feel better, michk. Take care.
Debbie
About Enbrel--I never tried it. I started with Humira and went to Remicade, which worked pretty well for me.
