I live in Houston, TX. I am 78 and only have Medicare (no other insurance). I am low income but not on medicaid (welfare). I do get extra help on my prescription drugs through the medicare part D -- Aetna is my drug provider. My Humira was provided by Aetna Specialty Pharmacy at no cost to me. I took Humira for 10 years but it has now lost its effect. My doctor thinks Orencia will help. My only problem is paying for it. Since it's an infusion at the doctor's office, the drug is purchased by the doctor's office and it's billed through part B of Medicare -- I have to pay 20% or $300 per infusion. I called Aetna Specialty Pharmacy and was told they would provide the drug at no cost to me and even mail the drug direction to the doctor but my doctor's office refuses to receive Orencia. So, even though I can get Orencia at no cost, I have to pay $300. Has anyone else on Medicare had the same happen to them? I'm so positive about finally getting some much needed relief from the pain, but may not get it because I can't afford to pay for it.
