Okay I have been Methotrexate (or however we spell it) for almost a month now. I have had more flare ups though since I have been on it. My hands are so bad that the other day in church I could only clap for a little. Or driving the car I could only do it for a bit cuase my hands are killing me. I see the biggest flare in there. A little in lower legs and hips. Is this normal? I go back to see doc in a week and I then have to ask for something for the pain......cause I hate not being able to do things.......

One month on metho and no improvement means one of 2 things. 1. That the drug itself or the current prescribed dose is not adequate,2. You need an anti inflammatory like prednisone to get your flare under control to see if metho helps. What dose are you currently taking? The pills never worked for me but the injectable form of metho does. That is a question you can also pose when you see the doctor. Usually the doctor starts you off slowly on the lowest dose of a drug possible in hopes that it will work and cause minimal side effects. If it doesn't work they often up the dose or change drugs or add addtional ones to your daily routine. It took almost a year to find the meds that keep me fairly stable. So one month is hardly any time at all. Give your doc and the meds a chance and if you are unhappy with the results you have seen ask the doctor for alternatives to choose from. Remember all RA drugs with the exception of prednisone take weeks to help even if they do work for you. Good luck and let us know what the doctor has to say next week. Just know what you are going thru is not uncommon at all! Take care and good luck!

I'm shocked that you are on Methotrexate being so young. I thought doctors usually only perscribe Prednisone at your age. I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. It took a month for me to notice any improvement on Methotrexte. Good luck to you!

One month is probably not long enough to give you the relief you need. It took me about 3 months to see the results. You shoulkd also be on an anti-inflamatory, nad something to STOP the Ra fro progressig. I am on remicade, and it works very well. The sooner you start tretment the better foryou. good luck
