Hi, I am new to this board but have enjoyed and been helped so much by reading the stories of other people who are going through this journey. My DVT/PE was caused by a 14 hour plane trip to Australia and back. I ignored my swollen right leg as I thought I had just pulled a muscle. About 10 days later I awoke in the middle of the night with horrible left lung pain. When I finally went to the ER it didn't take them long to xray and determine I had a PE. I was sent home from the hospital after 1-1/2 days on Warfarin and giving myself Lovenox injections. The hospital doctor said he was sending me home because 'people get sick in hospitals and you need to get well.' I am a pretty healthy 62 year old. My doctor said he 'NEVER goes on a plane ride without moving his legs like pedaling a bike every hour, and getting up and walking around'. He said a DVT can strike anyone at any time no matter what your history is. I am almost 5 months out and I still have left lung 'twinges', and am on Warfarin. It was by far the scariest thing I have ever been through...people would ask me how I was and I would tell them 'truthfully, I am scared out of my mind', but I knew a lot of people were praying for me. I have learned a lot about post-PE treatment and help from this site.
