Hi I'm new to this discussion group. I have had psoriasis ever since a severe car accident about 12 years back... I was told that my psoriasis started because of the physical and emotional stress and because of toxins that were floating around me while I was internally bleeding and my liver lacerated.
Has anyone actually had their psoriasis GO AWAY? I have found things that have helped a little but I have never had a time when it ever went away.
My trouble spots are my scalp, back of neck, chest area is covered and forehead... I have it other places too but these are the worst.
What has REALLY actually helped you? I prefer any natural remedies you can suggest as I have tried cortosone and it didn't help too much and I'm a "purity nut" lol.
Thanks all

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Also, getting sunshine everyday for a min. of 15 min. a day helps me, as well,
as going to a tanning bed when there is no sunshine-only for approx. 10 min., 2-3 times a week, but it helps me.
Talking an bath and having oatmeal tied in a "knee-high stocking" seems to soothe it when it is flared up at its worst,
along with using Aveda oatmeal lotion after bathing, and before drying off.
Everything the dermatologist has prescribed works for a bit, and only while using it 3-4 times a day - too much chance of skin atrophy for me. Comes back with a vengence after discontinuing prescribed creams, etc.
Their products are amazing and very pure-- work great for me. Click the Rx category to find the eczema/psoriasis products. Best of luck with your skin.
I identified a scalp problem, as S. Dermatitus, and found salycytic acid, helped. It's 3% max off the shelf, but has helped me. I use for shampoo, T/SAL, and for after the shower, Dermarest Scalp Conditioner. The shampoo removes the oils from your scalp, with the sal. acid, BUT, you must use a conditioner after you rinse the shamppo off, because the conditioner replaces oils on the scalp, that without it, will give you dry, itchy scalp, and be miserable. After you towel off, the Dermarest is placed on the scalp, in the areas where the redness is found, and that helps to suppress for a longer time period, the inflamation from returning. I wash my hair 2 a week, and been using this method, for a number of years now. It's the best I've found so far.
My dermatologist, isn't too bright, I guess. He said my condition may be S. Derm., or it may be Psoriasis, or it may be something other. And left it at that. Guess I need a Ouija board to help me figure it out.
He gave me Clobex, a scalp treatment, you put on your scalp, 10 minutes, before shampooing. The shampoo and conditioner is in it. But it;s very expensive, and it doesn't do any better, than the T/SAL and Dermarest method I use. So, I never even finished my first prescription of Clobex. With you using Salycytic acid, YOU need to use a conditioner, after it, or your scalp will drive you crazy, from the dryness the acid causes removing the oil from your scalp.
About a month after coming home from my 4 months hospital vacation, I tried mowing my lawn. My lawn, takes 4 hours mowing time, non stop. Plus, I wore coveralls, with the sleeves cut off. After some 10 to 15 minutes, my skin on my arms, and backof my hands, started itching me. I thought it was because I had gone thru so much, so I kept on. And after I finished, I suffered. My arms and back of hands, were covered in red welps, almost like the measels, and it itched, badly. I still could not drive myself, no one was available in the day time, and I foolishly didn't go to the ER. But nothing, nothing at all, helped it, except time, to help it go away. It took about a month, but what it cost me, was if I was in the sun for more than 10 minutes, I had on long sleeves. Even, if the temp was 100, it was better sweating, than itching to death. A couple years back, I actually found some 50 Sun Block, that was almost as thick as lard, but putting it on before going outside, protected me, so the long sleeves, stayed off.
I had 2 dr.'s look at minor outbreaks, but they too, said it might be psoriais, or something else. So, doctors play guessing games, but my feelings are, I have psoriais of the skin, and MAYBE, psoriasis of the scalp. But the T/SAL and Dermarest, the 3% type, is the best I found for what I have. Hope this helps.
