I am torn and don't know what do. I am 12 weeks pregnant with twins. DH and I went through fertility treatments to get pregnant. As I am sure most of you know how costly it is both financially and emotionally.
The conflict comes in with me substitute teaching. There has been a rash of MRSA staff infection breakout in the school districts around here and not all of the districts are making the public aware of the breakouts in their schools. For those of you who don't know, MRSA is an antibiotic resistant strain of the staff infection. In order to treat it, you must go on strong antibiotics and are often hospitalized. My OB told me that he cannot tell me what to do and said I am not more likely to get it because I am pregnant, but if I did contract it, they would have to be extremely aggressive with it.
My question is, what would you do? The extra money helps, but is not necessary. I am 12 weeks and my OB told me I would most likely have to stop subbing at 24 weeks. Would you continue subbing or would you quit? It would really help me to know how others would handle this situations. Thanks for all of your help!

In my own situation, I was not immune to chicken pox or Rubella when I was pregnant, And at that time, there was an outbreak of chicken P everywhere. I was VERY VERY uncomfortable with it, but I HAD to work for the money, had I not needed the money, I wouldn't have. Weight the pros and cons, how worth it would that sub job be if you DID catch something that's going around? Get armed with information, like you already have, and then make the decision. Good luck!

I wouldn't work if you didn't have to. Why put yourself and your babies at risk when it's not needed?

I kinda know where you are on this. I work too with kids and I also worry about catching something like this from them. I would weight out the pros and cons. MRSA is not something you want to fool with. If you can stop subbing then it might be a good idea. There are other jobs you could do such as tutoring that would allow you to still work with kids but wouldn't exspose you to such a large group at one time.

You can go see a heral doctor so as to make your immune system so good that the chances of you catching it are so much lower. In the meantime eat lots of fruite, i can only manage small prtions of fruite but try to eat 3 different types daily. Take pragnancy vitamins, eat lean meat, veg and carbs for you main meal daily and drink pleanty of water.

Erin - I talked to my OB too b/c I'm a teacher and we had a breakout of MRSA in our school. She said that things like this have always been going around and that the media has just blown it out of proportion. If you take the universal precautions such as not touching the kids and making sure to wash your hands, you should be fine. After the one case in our school things were disinfected and we haven't had another.

I agree with babybunni wjy risk it if the money is not necessary! Be safe and be pregnant! You can always go back to subbing once the babies come! Congrats on having twins! So exciting!

Yeah I'd have to aggree with most on this topic, if the money is not of neccessity then don't risk it. MRSA is very scary and it runs rampid in schools, they just had a huge thing on the news about all the recent outbreaks, I don't beleive that MRSA could ever be blown out of proportion, one can never be too safe!! You've worked hard enough anyways getting pregnant and you've got a lot of work ahead of you take advantage of the time you'll have!!

I would stop. I was working at as a veternary assistant and as soon as I found out that I was pregnant, I quit. It is always better to be safe than sorry. My son is very healthy (Thank God) The best thing I can say is use your best judgement. Besides you can always teach later on, but if you get the staff infection it could be deadly to you and your babies and what good would that do anyone?

methazilin resistant staffarius.. however you spell it.. MRSA i work in health care... me personally i woudln't risk it. if y ou don't need the extra money then wait until they get rid of it or until after you have the babies to go back... totally your choice though. best of luck.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
