I don't know about Zoloft, but I am on 10mg Prozac and am 27 weeks prego. I have taken it since about 2 weeks before getting pregnant. The pregnancy was unexpected but highly welcome. My baby is completely healthy. If I were you I would talk to my pdoc and let them know that you would like to start a family soon and need that to be considered. Think of it this way. It takes approx. 2-4 weeks for any med to take complete effect. It also has it's time span to leave your system. It would be best to plan your meds as though you would be pregnant tomorrow. You don't want to get stable on a med only to have to quit and switch. You would have to wait for the first med to fade away before switching and then you would be doing this during very early pregnancy, the most vulnerable time for a baby. This is just my suggestion. It's what I wish I had done. Before I got pregnant I was also on Lithium, a pregnancy NO NO. It worked really well for me, but I was scared as hell when I had to first of all quit the medication and second of all didn't know I was pregnant until around 9 weeks. Hoping to save you some worry.

Also, the baby might show some withdrawl symptoms right after birth, but it just manifests as them being a little cranky and goes away in a few days. We discussed the risks of the meds vs the risks of the pregnancy without meds. My husband and I decided that we'd go for the meds. Taking care of yourself is SOOOO important while you're pregnant.

My plan was to switch to zoloft before trying to get pregnant. My husband and I decided to stop trying to prevent pregnancy, but weren't going to focus on when I was fertile and all that stuff. I didn't change my meds right away. And I got pregnant right away. Let me tell you, changing meds while pregnant is NOT FUN. *L*

Talk to your doctor about the questions you have. I think that zoloft is a good choice, but talking to a professional about it will probablay help ease your worries too.
