Hey Ladies,
I'm new to this particular board as I am just now 5 weeks pregnant. Our first pregnancy ended in miscarriage followed by a year and a half of infertility treatments so DH and I are holding on tightly to hope and excitement while trying to be practical.
That said - we've agreed that our gift to each other this Christmas will be NURSERY furniture since I'll just be getting into the 2nd trimester around that time. I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the options out there and would love the input that any of you have. Places to shop online....stores....tips/pointers/etc.....
I know I may be jumping the gun on this....but I just want to start getting some ideas of what I like and what a good price is.

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
dont forget youll have a baby shower. and just like wedding gifts, people wills pend money on larger items.
good luck and congrats. its such a fun thing to plan and think about.
I also had a cradle not a bassinet for our room. Cradles generally have a higher weight limit than bassinets. That meant DS could stay in the cradle and next to me until he was able to sit up on his own. If your room is large enough a pack n play is another option for that.
Convertible cribs are useful if you are only going to have one child, but if you plan more than one, you will probably want just a crib. My plain crib was less than $300 from a baby boutique and seemed to be middle of the road. (We skipped the toddler bed and went straight into a twin that we already owned.) Oh the other problem with convertibles is that the side doesn't go down. Hard to put down a sleeping baby when you're short. ;-)
Make sure you sit in the rocking chairs. I sat in about 30 before I found one that fit me and my budget!
Also make sure you go CPSC.gov and sign up for free recall notices.
