I was just wondering for all of you that have been through labor and delivery before...
Did they let you eat anything while you were in labor or drink anything? Like, I read in my What to Expect When Expecting book that easy-to-digest foods are okay...like Jell-O, Sorbet, etc. And maybe light fluids. But, with my sis she did not get anything except ice chips. She was in labor for 22 hours too. I don't know if it is because they were inducing her or not. She was put on Pitocin and I don't know if eating would have made her nauseas or not.
I just wanted to know what your guys' experience with this was. I am 36 weeks and 2 days and D day is nearing so I am trying to get as much prepared as possible. Does the whole eating and drinking thing just depend on your doctor or what?
Thanx in advance for all your replies and I really appreciate the advice :D

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Then with baby 2 I was induced at 39 weeks and they let me have jello and water in the beginning of my labor which was heavenly:)
I however was made by my nurse to drink a pitcher of water (and she forced me to do it rather fast) and ended up throwing up several times during labor (i wasn;t to upset that the nurse had to clean it up either) Its normal to throw up during labor so make sure anything that you do eat wont be to bad coming up (I dont recommend the carnation protein shake!)
Ultimently you will have to adddress this with your doctor. S/he will be able to tell you if you can drink and eat or not. There reasoning behind not being able to is to protect them in case you aspirate while under general anestisia (something that most women, even those delivering by c-section) wont be under. And even if you were put under, I read a study that talked about how aspirated stomach acid from a empty stomach could potentially be worse to the lungs than foods matter. Either was discuss it with your doc and good luck.
once i went back it was only ice chips.
