So when i got pregnant i was a little over weight, and now that i am pregnant i'm really afraid of gaining extra weight that i shouldn't be gaining. I've been eating more healthy and since my husband is gone a lot and i dont like to cook i have found myself eating the lean cuisine and smart ones meals for dinner instead of cooking a big meal. I'm not really dieting, but i'm trying very hard to maintain the 1lb per week that you're supposed to gain.(its in that book that i've read what to expect when you're expecting) Is this ok or should i be eating regular food instead of what they call "diet food"

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Your doctor should give you a good guideline to what would be good for your to gain during pregnancy. A friend of mine was pretty overweight when she conceived and was told to try not to gain anything. I was told that 15 pounds would be ok. It really depends on how overweight you were to start with. Women with a healthy BMI I think are allowed to gain 25 or 30 pounds safely.
The weight that is gained isn't just fat. If its excessive, it sure can be, but I think there's a good breakdown of how much everything weighs (baby, uterus, blood volume extra breast tissue, etc), so gaining isn't a bad thing if its not excessive. I know its scary to think about gaining more weight when overweight to start with!!
The big concern is that the baby gets enough nutrients to grow correctly. As long as it does, it should be ok. My friend ended up losing 10 pounds by the end of her pregnancy and the baby was totally healthy. Its something that you should work with your doctor closely about.
I don't do a lot of cooking myself, but I end up eating a lot of soup - big chunky varieties with lots of meat and veggies.
