i am 36 weeks pregnant, and i've been told i was "slightly" bigger than my dates, but today i was told i'm measuring 38 weeks, does this mean i'm gonna have Beanie early? Or does it mean s/he is a big baby? or does it not mean anything?

It could mean a lot of things. Usually how much you measure usually means how many weeks you are. So maybe you are really 38 weeks. Or it could mean that you are going to have a big baby. Did you ask the doc what it meant?

No, i didn't ask the doc because i went to see him because i was feeling ill, and he managed to squeeze me in between two other appointments, so it was a bit of a rushed job, because he didn't have any other appointments until Friday

It could mean you are carying a big baby or that in my case my dates were wrong because i have a period between 20 and 35 days each month so i ovulate at different times each month. I dont mean i bleed for thins long i mean the space between periods. it could also mean you are carrying alot of amniotic fluid rather than baby. I thought only a scan could determine the size of a baby! I could be wrong. Dont worry you've made it this far just look forward to a normal birth. I walked alot with my daughter and had a smooth delivery. She is now 7 and i am 20 weeks pregnant with my 3rd.

Honestly, in my experience it didn't mean a thing. With my first baby I measured small, and he was huge (for me - I'm 5'2'' and a slender build). He was 9 pounds, 22 inches long. I had such horrible back pain during that pregnancy that my husband jokes that the baby was hiding wrapped around my spine. With my second, I measured big (like you) and he was 8 pounds, 3 ounces, 20 inches long; pretty average size I think. This time I've also been measuring big. We'll see what happens!

I'm not worried Nekeybaw, i just wanna be prepared, cos if my dates are wrong then i'm due in 2 weeks & there are still things that need doing lol

There is a scale of 1 to 100 and out of that they come up with an average for what the baby should weigh. It is an estimate and it is possible that your baby may be larger than average, but it does not mean that your baby will come early. I had the same thing. Of course I did have a larger baby.. He was 10 pounds and 4 oz at birth. But, if you are concerned talk to your Dr. but truthfully, I don't think it is anything to worry about.

I guess I am confused how are "you" measuring 38 weeks? Please tell me this isn't a tape measure around the belly and a guess from there. I do not know of any method of estimating a baby's weight besides measurements from a scan. That is the only way to judge the true growth of the baby. You can't do it from looking on the outside.

Many doctors measure the height of your fundus to help determine if the baby is growing as he should. It doesn't replace an u/s, but most insurance companies don't cover unlimited u/s so measuring is just another way of checking up on baby. If your measurements are way off from what they should be (about 1cm per week of pregnancy) I suppose that would be a reason the insurance company might cover another u/s to check on baby. The measuring is not an exact science, but like I said, it's another tool some doctors use.

I was never measured during my first pregnancy and havn't thus far into this one. Are they sopposed to? And when do they start?

Krystal D: They don't have too, it is just a way to make sure that you are growing normally like Chearbear said. My midwife use to measure me everytime I had an appt. She would do it after hearing the heartbeat or sometimes, before she did the heartbeat. My midwife ledt the practice so I see the reg doc's now. Not sure how they do it, today will be the first time that I meet him. Usually thats when they do it. How far along are you? Maybe when you get later into your pregnancy they might start measuring you. I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow so, maybe somewhere in your 30th week they will. Good luck to all.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
