Because I will be having a second c-section at the end of this pregnancy, and because my husband and I know that we don't want to have any more children of our own (but perhaps adopt in a few years), I had decided to go ahead and have my tubes tied while the surgeons were already in there. I've come to find out that because the hospital at which I am delivering is CATHOLIC, my doctor has to actually petition for my right to a tubal ligation, and I may not even get it! I've had chronic pain throughout the entire pregnancy, and have a long history of rupturing ovarian cysts, and my OB will use this info to plead my case... but I still find it amazing that at 30 years old, with 2 children, my decisions regarding my own body are not entirely my own. Has ANYONE else had this happen to them? If so, did you get the application approved? If not, what was the reason given for denial? I can't decide whether to be outraged, or kind of bemused.
