I am absolutly in tears. When I woke up this morning and saw the topic of discussion was on an insurance question I answered last night I had a feeling there was something up. When I realized what it was my heart absolutly sank.
When I joined this group I had no insurance. I was a few weeks pregnant, I was scared. My son was only 9 months old, I had just gotten off of medicaid. Several times I wanted to start a discussion about what to do. I couldnt ask for help again. They (medicaid) had already done so much.....
My son Tristan was born with Pyloric Stenosis. A condition where there is narrowing of the pylorus. The pylorus is the area at the lower end of the stomach that connects to the small intestines. The pylorus acks as an outlet for food to pass out of the stomach. Pyloric Stenosis occures when the pylorus muscle of the stomach grows to large and too thick. Food is prevented by the narrowed pylorus from emptying into the small intestine. This causes frequent vomiting that may lead to serious nutrition and growth problems in newborn babies. Surgery is often needed to correct the problem.
The day I brought Tristan home he threw up on me. That was it until a month later when I woke up to the obvious sound of my baby projectile vomitting. The Dr. visits and drugs that would be considered protocal that my sweet little 1 month old had to go through before they finally gave him an ultra sound was rediculous. He was rushed to the nearest city by ambulance. At 9:30 p.m. my 1 month old went into surgery.
Without medicaid I dont know what we would have done. I cant believe this has me crying so hard. I dont want this baby to be without because I cant afford the price of health insurance these days. What am i supose to do? I just got my letter of approval yesterday covering me for a year, but now I feel like I should say no and cancel my Dr.s appt. until I can figure out something else..
I dont know how I let someones comment to someone elses post make me so upset. It just has. I am wondering if these messaging boards might be a bad idea after all.

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
I am a social worker and I have seen so many parents struggling to pay for things like groceries and housing, let alone find the money for healthcare for themselves or their children. Many of the parents I know have their kids on medicaid despite working full-time, and forgo insurance for themselves entirely because they can't afford it. I firmly believe that health insurance is a RIGHT and not a privilege, and if you qualify for the federal version then more power to you, take advantage of that. I am happy to know that my tax dollars are going to actually help moms and babies have health coverage in this country, a lot happier than I am about funding the war or paying senators' salaries.
Second - if you have EVER worked a job or paid taxes in your state or in this country - you have paid for others who have used Medicaid - and if you need it, you should apply for it. Especially if you are pregnant. Your unborn baby's health, and your own, are more important than pride or shame - shame which you shouldn't have anyway. You'll continue paying into the system for the rest of your life. It is there to be used WHEN YOU NEED IT!
Summer, PLEASE PLEASE go and apply. You don't know what they will cover or if you will qualify until you ask. It costs nothing to find out. Also, if you aren't approved and the hospital knows you tried for it, they may be willing to write off a good portion of your bill.
My hubby had a heart attack before we were married, and he was uninsured. Because he's MALE he did not qualify for medicaid, and he had to declare bankruptcy on the bills that were left. Fortunately one hospital wrote off 100K for us, through their charitable foundation. You should check into all of that when choosing a hospital.
summerbda I am sorry about what happened with your hubbys buisness. I hope the hospital will work with you.
Thanks again evryone. I WILL be accepting my Medicaid.
