PTSD--32 years ago...?!!! Hypnosis?

I have a question:
My brother shall we say "engaged in inappropriate behavior with me" when I was 8 years old and he was 10. He then told me that if I told anyone, he would kill me. I kept it all a secret until I was around 19 years old. When I was 14, I told my mom I needed a counselor, but she just thought I was a regular teenager and said I didn't need it.
Has anyone had any luck with hypnosis to "clear out" repressed feelings? I don't think about this stuff consciously, but I daresay it affects my choices, et cetera...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I was sexually abused by my older brother, too, so I have some idea about what you're going through. This is a safe place for you to share your feelings. You'll find that there are many of us on here who have experienced sibling abuse. You're not alone.
He knew the guy really well. They were long time friends. SO there was also a lot of trust there as well as an honest caring for him as a person and a desire to help.
I tried hypnosis for some other things and didn't find it helpful, but they have been the context or the person giving it to me that was the real problem. You know how you get good and bad doctors, therapists, customer service reps, etc.
A lot depends on the person as well as the therapy. :)
I'm just really starting to "put the pieces together" as to why I accept certain less than acceptable circumstances of my life. I think the best way I can mend my future is to completely heal the past. Strange how hard that seems to be.

I think psychotherapy is going to be longer but get more results for me and would recommend the same to you. hope things work out in any case.
I'm curious, though. Everyone who responded was talking about discovering or reviewing memories under hypnosis. What you were asking (I think) is whether hypnosis can be used to "forget" or change memories or feelings. It's a good question. If it can do that, I might be more willing to think about it as a treatment, since I don't like the idea of drugs or doctors. With a hypnotherapist, hubby could be there to protect me. Anyone have thoughts on hypnosis to clear away the bad stuff?
Anyway, thanks to everyone.
