ok, i know other people have asked about the tendency to zone out, blank out, whatever you want to call it. basically, i do this a lot. it's always been more of an embarassment than a real problem, but lately it's been getting worse and i've almost had two car accidents this week because of it.
when i talked to my mom about it she said that my dad does the same thing, they're called petit mal seizures. i looked it up on the nih website and it says that petit mal seizures shouldn't last more than a minute, longer than that and there could be something else wrong.
i've definitely blanked out for up to 5 minutes before.
does anyone know anything about petit mal seizures? and if so, is this the same thing or does ptsd just look like them?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...

There are lots of reasons you could be zoning out. You might want to head down to your local library and find a copy of the Diagnostic and Statisical Manual of Mental Disorders, or as it is affectionately known the DSM-IV-TR.
Nothing quite so empowering as finding out the real deal for yourself rather than by hearsay or our rather flabby media.
Look into the epilepsy, but if you've got PTSD, there are other factors.
Good luck.
I FAILED! Told me I should NOT be driving b/c my reaction times are delayed.
Even before the test, I found myself 'Zoning Out', missing my turns b/c I am Zoned out.
That is definitely an issue for those of us with PTSD. Though, it may be the Seizures...you could always go see a Neurologist and have him do a 24-48 hour EEG to check to see if you are having Seizures.
But, it could just be the PTSD and disassociation....
Either Way...Your Safety and others are at risk.
I was told to not drive on the highway...but local should be ok...but even driving a few miles away...I notice I zone out...but I try to tap something to keep me in the here and now.
The Doc's have the right to take my license, but that hasn't come up yet.
Get it checked out...talk to your Pdoc...and/or see a Neurologist.
