I was diagnosed a year ago but still consider myself a newbie too. I have found a lot of help, support, and guidance here and hope you will as well.
I want to share something with you that I found very helpful to help me see that the symptoms I am experiencing are very much a part of PTSD. I knew they said that was what I had but I refused to accept it at first.
I am one of those that needs to see it in black and white. Very A-type personality.
My therapist recommended this workbook for me and I found it incredibly helpful to do the exercises. It made me be able to converse with her more effectively, learn the lingo, etc. I also shared some of the book with my husband and friends to help them to better understand as it isn't a technical book but very lay-person friendly.
I got it at Barnes and Noble but you can find it at many major book stores and if they don't have it in stock they are happy to order it for you with no more expense. It was around $15-20. But invaluable to me.....
It's called the PTSD workbook. Simple, effective techniques for overcoming and dealing with traumatic stress symptoms.
The co-authors are Mary Beth Williams and Soili Poijula
I hope you will all go and get this. Good luck.... we will and do find things to help us deal with not only our traumas but the every day stressors and triggers.

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
I have found this site to be a refuge when there's no where else to go, now when i'm around "normal" people i can rely that there's all my friends from DS and i don't feel so alone.
To the newbees don't feel afraid to speak up, there are so many caring helpful people here.
I also have this book and find it very helpful It is an exellent book to learn
from.
But, I find this site to be the most helpful. As, Amiko said, this site is a refuge. Everyone here hurts together, helps, supports, and validates each other.
I hope the newbees find this site as wonderful as I have and that others will pick up the book you mentioned. It does help.
