Hi everyone,
Can I ask, What symptoms or issues have you had (in addition to flashbacks) that are attributed to PTSD?
The more I learn about PTSD, the more things suddenly click with me...
Very vivid nightmares my whole life, and I can remember hundreds of them in detail, as though I lived through them
Needing to be in control of everything having to do with my body and my life
Self-injury - That's a big one. I can't believe I actually posted it in a public place. When I'm upset with myself, I scratch my arms or torso. It takes my mind off whatever was eating at me. I keep thinking back to my parents saying "If you don't stop crying, I'll give you something to cry about." I guess that's when I decided if you couldn't see a hurt, it didn't warrant crying.
What else is in your life because of PTSD?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
seems like every time i think i'm getting better, something happens and i realize i'm not there yet.
dissociate/totally switch off.
jumpy.
nervous.
anxiety.
mummbled brain.
shallow breathing.
nightmares.
petrified.
body memories.
smells.
can't talk.
I also hear the detached "wall around me" notes. I've always felt I was someone "living inside a hollow body," looking out through the eyes. Add it to my list
You guys are teaching me a lot. Hugs to you all for being willing to help by sharing.
Blessings of peace,
Wistala
At times I will isolate myself or remove myself from people around me.
And weirdest things will trigger me and at the most unexpected times.
hypervigilance.
suicidal ideation but i think that comes from my bipolar disorder as well...
anxiety.
the hypervigilance is huge for me. i can't ever just block out what's going on around me.
i can never have my back to a door. things like that.
poor sleep
anxiety
overly tense muscles
detached feelings mixed with overwhelming memories that sometimes leave me impossible to breath
short temper
maybe there is more but those are the ones I notice from myself
Bright Blessings to all,
Wistala
body memories: last year on the anniversary of my rape my throat closed up entirely and i could barely breathe or speak.
stuff like that is downright frightening when you think about its implications.
