I recently had the opportunity to ask Dr. Dennis Bordette, Dr. of the OHSU MS Center, a question about how to better facilitate communication between our primary doctors and our specialists.
Dr. Bordette did agree that keeping specialists and primaries informed of each others' various diagnoses and treatment plans was a major problem. He said it comes from their inability to bill for time they spend on phones conferring with other doc's, and suggested that what we do is request copies of all of the records from each dr. we see, copy them, and take them to the other doctors, and then ask for time for them to discuss the records you bring. This way you make sure they are aware of the other doc's records, treatments, etc.
Do you have any other suggestions of how one can facilitate communication between your doctors?
