Don't have any advice this time but my ears do perk up to any question that has the word chocolate in it!!! I hope someone knows the answer before I go hit the candy aisle:)

My doctor told me two drinks per week max because of the methotrexate. I follow his guidance more than I used to. The amount I drink doesn't seem to make much difference with my liver function tests. Using Ibuprofin and Tylenol affects them worse.

Alcohol makes me feel horrid these days. I wasn't drinking at all when I started the Methotraxe, but the started to have a few drinks here and there. Well, I over-indulged on St Paddy's day and haven't felt well since! :(

I am not a drinker but when I first picked up my perscription for prednisone the Pharmacist told me not to drink alcohol while taking it!!! As for chocolate well I have heard that too. For me I think a little bit of chocolate can't hurt if only to satisfy you....nothing wrong with a little vice...lol!!!!!!

I guess I've stayed "on the safe side" and have not been drinking (with pred/cellcept) , but the dark chocolate intake has gone way up! :-)

I am on Prednisone and Methotrexate....for several years. I cut alcohol out completely until October. I was a halloween party and had a jello shot. I felt incredibly guilty. I talked to my Neurologist about it and she said since my blood work has come back good for the last several years, I was ok to indulge "a litttle". She would not define what that meant. She did say not to drink on my Methotrexate day or preferably the day before or the day after. I must admit I went to a Toga party and drank that day and did my Metho shot that night. I know that isn't good but it is how it turned out.

I still try not to drink and only do it on special occasions.

I hardly ever drink but if I want to I don't care what medication I'm on. :o) Live life, I say!

Hi lovelink,I am on 7mg prednisone,10mg methotrexate.I have been on these for 5 years,and at begining doc was a bit hazy about how much i could drink alcohol.Like you i didnt drink that much,but you always want what you cant have.and have probably drank more now than i did before.Anyway at first i thought it did reduce inflamation of skin rash but i also would feel really low a day or two after i dont know if this is to do with the meds or just down to me.I have skin rash on face chest,and arms.I now have just started cutting out wine,dairy products so fingers crossed my skin will get a bit better.I dont think that 3 drinks a wk is that much but in my experience i think it does have an effect and as i hugh wine lover myself(drink 4 glasses max on a sat) is not good news! but when it comes to your health alcohol isnt that big a deal.sorry to go on and on lovelink take care and be well x

Well, for those of you who know me...you know i'm the contraversial one of the group!! I eat pretty much what I want...which doesn't say too much because I eat pretty healthy. I do have chocolate when I feel like it and I do drink when I want, and pretty much how much I want. I'm not on prednisone anynore...only methotrexate and plaquinil...well, I shouldn't say "only". I absolutely LOVE beer and I like to have one sometimes when I get home from a rough day at work. I gave up smoking 5 or 6 years ago and I don't really have any other vices...except perhaps caffeine...shame on me right....eh...

I have read much literature on this very subject...mainly alcohol...and I think for a lot of people, they can at least say that they gave it up. Whether there is any really good data out there to prove it further damages you liver...well, I neither condone nor condemn. I do what I do for me. I'm not a saint and i'm not a martyr either....and i'm never going to try to be. I'm living my life as best I can with the education I have.

Alcohol and prednisone are both hard on your liver. The liver is the engine that gets rid of the alcohol in your system. When it's unable to do its job because of overload or because it's weakened, you will get drunk. If you do it once in a while, I guess it won't do permanent damage.
The same goes for methotrexate and alcohol. The warning is even more serious if you take prednisone AND methotrexate. I wouldn't have more than one drink or two a week.
