For the last ten years I have been dealing with problems relating to my menstrual cycles. It all started after the birth of my daughter. I would go long periods (3-4 months) without a period. I also started gaining weight and having skin issues and alopecia. I then struggled to get pregnant a second time and dealt with multiple miscarriages. My husband is military so unfortunately I have not been able to consistently see the same doctor for long periods of time. I finally gave birth to my second child last year. At my 6 week appointment I had an IUD implanted. My cycles seemed to get better but then suddenly this year the problems have started again. Extreme weight gain, hair loss (alopecia), acne, excessive facial hair, and high cholesterol. I went from January through March with no period. Then in April I had a period that lasted 25 days, then in May it lasted 29 days. In the meantime I had a PAP and it came back suspicious. In June I saw my GYN (new one) and he said he thought I have PCOS. He ordered some blood tests and gave me progesterone to induce a "normal period". Well since that time it has been much of the same. End of June, 7 day period, then for much of July I have had spotty bleeding. He called to tell me the blood tests indicated all of my hormone levels were normal. This leaves me more confused than I was before. Can you give me any advice? Shouldn't he be doing more to help me?
