I was told 1 yr ago that I have PCOS. I have the weight problems, facial hair, insulin resistance, Skin tags. The only thing that was different was I have always had a period, every month for three days. When my dr dx me she put me on Metaformin and birth control to try to help shrink the cysts she found on my ovaries. The first 3 months everything was fine. I had a longer period (7 days) but every thing was normal. Then in Month 4 everything went nuts, I would be fine for 10 days then have a 7 day period, fine for 10 days then have a 7 day period. This went on for 8 months. Dr kept saying stay on it it will eventually straighten out. I finally stopped the Birth control b/c I was so fatigued and I cramped constantly. Oh, and during all this I had 3 vaginal ultra sounds that all showed very little change, but for the next three days I could barely walk the cramps were so bad.
