I was just wondering if doing nothing for diagnossed PCOS is/can be harmful to a person? I get my period 6-8 times a year but it is always really light but it does last for 6-7 days. I was on birth control pills before they figured out that I had PCOS to get my period regularly for 2 years but I went off them at 18. I was just wondering if there could be any BAD side effects of not doing anything medically for it? I am working on getting insurance to go to the doctor but by the time I get there it will probably be into 2008 so for the meantime I was wondering if anyone had any sugjestions?

Yeah there can be health risks for not treating PCOS. Such as developing Diebietis (sorry for the bad spell) and other illnesses. I am not currently treating PCOS just the symptom of not having a regular period. I have many of my friends here that urge me to find a new doctor who will actually take an interest in PCOS and treat it. I hope to find a new doctor soon. Take Care and I hope this helps! Jane

I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
