Re: A Survivor's Journey & What To Do Now?

Thank you everyone who responsded so eloquently to my recent posts. I am so happy that you (and myself included) all found solace and peace in "A Survivor's Journey.
I spoke to E this morning at the shelter where I am working through the Dept of Labor out here in NY about getting some counseling even though I am a survivor through BT but she felt it might be a conflict of interest so she was pleased to refer me to several local places for it instead with a good reputation.
It appears based on office conversation that they would like to train me to work the DV Hotline!
I have to say I kinda feel a little out of place with them because of their well manicured hands, and Gucci hand bags but I might be able to get some clothes through the Dept of Labor, all I have is sweat pants and tank tops! Hardly professional!
I did call my worker over at DOL this morning and he did say I can go get my GED in one of 2 ways, I can go through BOSCES and split my hours between that and the work site or I can do it at home through GRASP. Not sure which one to do. I have also recieved an email today from a woman at the Displaced Homemakers Program out here saying she would like me to call her but I had to email her back saying I would soon as I could but I also explained my reasons for wanting the help through their program.
A bit of good news for the Ministry however, I had been asked to do some work on the Advocacy Director's puter today at work and the topic of the Ministry came up. Her face light up like a Christmas tree! She said "OMG! You would be such a wonderful resource for us, there arent many shelters and/or intake offices in this area for Domestic Violence. Bring in some of your brochures and I will run it by the Shelter Director."
I am also going to be looking into training for a DVL which is a Domestic Violence Liason. Not sure what their criteria is but they're up in Albany from what I understand, Im sure I can find out on the web (soon as I'm done with this post and making dinner....
Ladies, thank you so much for your words of wisdom and guidance..it was just a gentle reminder I needed to keep my ass going to ensure that I stay a SURVIVOR!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...

It's called Dress for Success and it is a womens organization that helps "women in need" to find professional clothing, provide a support network and help with professional development. I don't know where in NY state you are but i did look and there seem to be several there.
GOOD LUCK!
