Phobia Support Group
A phobia (from the Greek "fear"), is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities, or persons. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. When the fear is beyond one's control, or if the fear is interfering with daily life, then a diagnosis under one of the anxiety disorders can be made.

I have just realised I am creeping towards being an agorophobic again - I am terrified about driving to meet a friend a little way away on Wednesday. I have difficulties with finding my way because of spatial dyslexia, which is just four years old, so always feel when going somewhere new, very anxious but have been able to tackle this. My husband died three and a half years ago and I have hardly been anywhere since then, other than the outskirts of the city where I live.
I have put off this meeting twice and feel I will be letting myself down (as well as my old schoolfriend) if I dont make it this time, and I am getting older - I dont want to never be able to travel again - I was getting soooo much better a few years ago when my husband was alive. oh dear!
Help pleeeease - I really need some ideaas...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I you absolutely can't go give you friend some notice. If it is at all possible, tell your friend the truth. If you think that is not right for you to do, make up an excuse that won't hurt her feelings AT ALL. Then tell your therapist if you have one. If you don't, please get one ASAP. They can help you with this. Don't be scared. We are here to talk you through it!
