Pet Bereavement Support Group
The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

I had to put my beloved sheltied to sleep in May due to cancer. I've been going through the grieving process and yes, time has a way of healing. But now, I went out the other day to our Humane Society and fell in love with a Pomeranian. It seemed to be just what the doctor ordered...right size for apartment, barks for protection (I live alone)loveable and all the other attributes our canines give. My problem is, I may have allergies. I've only had him for approx. 10 days now and I'm taking allergy medication too. I really love him but I'm having second thoughts about him. Any thoughts? Thanks....

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Don't give up your pet until you have tried everything to control the problem first...just a suggestion.
Good luck!
I lost 2 dogs from June- Aug this year. The last to go (Aug #rd) was my 17 year old Sheltie. There was nothing wrong with him, he just died from old age. My other dog was a lab/chow mix who was 12 years old and died of Cancer.($20,000,the best medical care, and 4 month later he still died)I can hardly type the word and I would have done anything to keep them both alive.
I gave my horse ranch to my daughter and her husband because the death of my beloved pets just took me to the ground. I could not get up every morning and go out with the other animals (9 horses,2 goats) and not see my dogs running around. In August I moved to a contemporary new condo. Nothing like I was used to. All new everything. Granite, tile "carpeting", city view, beautiful...but I was by myself, just the photos and ashes of my pets in my display case.
I thought seriously about getting a Pom as they are small enough to go "everywhere" with you. I went to a couple of breeders to look at them, but in my heart, with so many animals needing a home, I could not in good faith, purchase when I could rescue. I just wasn't sure if I could even get another pet as my emotions were still raw over my loss.
In regards to your post...I think only you can make the decision as to what you need to do for you and your dog. Please don't take him back to the pound...find a good home for him. He has come this far, his final destination will depend on you....Be well...L
