Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.
The BP is largely chemical, whereas the BPD leans more to impaired cognitive function which I believe is symptomatic of my upbringing in an invalidating environment.
Having BP chemical issues can predispose someone to BPD. So while Dialectic Behavioural Therapy can be used effectively to address the BPD, you'll probably still need a mood stabiliser for the BP.
