I thought it might be nice and could stimulate some conversation about who some important people in our lives are who don't normally get too much attention. I guess veteran's day brought this thought out, and so I would like to purpose honoring with a small story here the following until the end of this year:
the rest of this week--A veteran you admire
Nov. 18- A friend of yours without PD
Nov 25- A special teacher who taught you
Dec 2 -A teacher you know but did not teach you
Dec 9- A fireman or policeman
Dec 16 - A nurse
Dec 23- Any person living or dead who has influenced you in life
Dec 30- The person you would like to be most like
And you know what? If you take the time to do this, do one more thing. Print it out and mail it to them. You'll make someone's day and you'll feel good from it to.
So, anyone want to share about a veteran in your life?
I will try to remind at the beginning of each week.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
A veteran I admire; that's easy. My hubby! He joined the airforce back in 1972 I think it was and was in for six years. Even though there was a war going on, he felt that since he couldn't afford to go to college, and living in Alaska, there weren't too many jobs available, the military was a good opportunity. He learned about electronics there and immediately got a good job in California when he got out. I admire his guts for doing that. Without prospects at home, he didn't sit around on his hands, he jumped in with both feet and made his own future, knowing that he could have been sent to Vietnam at a moment's notice. He said the military really opened his eyes and broadened his horizons; he met all kinds of people he would never have met otherwise, and learned a lot of valuable life lessons along with the electronics training. What a brave guy!
My special vet would have to be my brother in law by marriage, David. He entered the Army right after h.s. in the early 70's. He was a helicopter maintanance man and in the 101st airborne. By the time I knew him my husband (boyfriend then) still idolized him in a way. David served in Vietnam, was shot down once and wounded once. He later served with special forces. His last deployment in 1985 was on a multinational peace keeping mission in the Siani. On the return home on Dec 12, 1985 the plane carrying troops to Fort Campbell KY crashed upon takeoff in Gander Newfoundland. 260 servicemen died along with David. He had 23 yrs of service in; could have retiree in 2 short years; left a wife and a baby daughter who had her 2nd bday 5 days after her daddy died. David was just a good ol country boy who loved his family and his country; one of those quiet guys who let his life speak louder than any words he might have said. I only knew him a few years before he died, but he is still missed by our family. And yet his memory makes me smile. You make us proud, David! God keep you until we meet again.
God Bless our soldiers! Jan
I have to say my veteran is my youngest daughter, Shawna. She joined the Army Reserves just so she could go to college. She was in her last semester when she got her deployment orders and was sent to Iraq for 12 months, not to mention all the pre-deployment days spent on base. Here this girl is, a 1st Sargent, over a platoon of men and gets right in there with them. She drives an 18-wheeler that hauls 3 pieces of heavey equiment on her trailer. I was on pins and needles until she came back from across the big pond. I am still the 'most' proudest ARMYMOM!
