My son, who has recently been diagnosed with TS and ADHD has just started a new behavior and will not swallow his food. He'll chew it all up and then run to the trash can and spit it out. We were on vacation three weeks ago when it started. I asked him why he is doing it and he said he was afraid he would choke. I explained to him how if he chews his food right he will not choke and even showed him by putting a huge piece of food in my mouth and chewed it up and swallowed and said see I didn't choke. He tried it with me watching and was very proud that he swallowed, but three weeks later, he is still spitting on a regular basis. He will eat very little, nothing healthy, just pop-tarts or saltine crackers and will take hours to eat one pop-tart because he takes little teeny bites and with much effort with swallow. He's is always complaining that he is hungry. He also loses his temper and tolerance more quickly and I feel like it is because he is not eating right and therefore he is cranky. Has anyone had anything similar to this? I have read that OCD is also related to TS and am wondering if this issue is more an OCD issue although he was not diagnosed with that.
