Hi.. I'm new here, so I guess I should introduce myself and give you a rundown on my problem. My name is Nikki, and my 9 yr old son Gavin has ADHD and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. While he is seeing a therapist for the PTSD, I am getting no help for his out of control ADHD. I reluctantly went the medication route and the stinkin' doctor ended up giving him an overdose of Focalin and he ended up in the hospital overnight! So.. needless to say.. I don't trust drugs to give to my son anymore. He could have easily had a heart attack that night all because of an ignorant doctor and because I didn't trust my own instincts to question the high dosage! That will never happen again! My husband and I fight constantly about how to deal with Gavin! He is stern/strict.. while I'm more passive and tend to make excuses for him. The fact is that i just simply don't know what to do when he acts out! I don't agree with my husband being so over the top that i've threatened to kick him out on numerous occassions, but i DO know that I need to do more to manage his behavior. Do any of you have children that you prefer to keep off of meds and if so... how do you manage their sometimes erratic behaviour??

I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
