I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.....We've had some ongoing troubles with our daughter at home and at school and the school councellor has been having 'visits' with her at school all year but the troubles didn't go away. She suspected aspergers syndrome and suggested taking her to a clinical child psychologist for a diagnosis. Now I was getting a little tired of the regular ineffective visits to the school councellor as my daughter has been attention-seeking over the years and my thoughts were that this would just be feeding it, and in my opinion it hadn't helped any. I took her to the psych and she was again, the same if not worse. then for reasons of time and work and so on I couldn't take her back for the return visit for a period of a couple of months, and faced with nothing but two parents who didn't cave in and pay attention to the reactions and just enforced consequences no matter what fuss she put up added to some other changes and techniques we put in place, she improved! Then finally I had to take her to the psych just to finalise it really, and all of a sudden after time with her my daughter reverted back to her old self! She has now swung back to the good her after some home consequences, and I'm thinking that all this sitting around focusing on her and talking about things she's done lately for fun etc.. is just egging the attention seeking monster on and perpetuating the problem. The councelling never seems to make any improvements and I think it's because she's not being treated like any other kid - she's being treated like she's something different or special which to me, is the worse thing you can do with a kid who does things to get attention. sorry this is so long - I just needed to get it off my chest and get your opinions on this as I'm close to placing a ban on all councelling and things which mark her out as different from the other kids.
