The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends no more than 1-2 hours of quality programming daily. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the case as a new survey published today in the journal Pediatrics has found children watch greater than 3 hours a day, on average. Furthermore, this same study found 63% of the homes had a TV in the child\'s bedroom.
Will post this in some of the other parenting communities but would enjoy hearing from parents about this.
Thanks,
JFS

A friend sent this to me..As far as I can see, grief will never truly end.It may become softer overtime, more gentleand some days will feel sharp. But grief will last as long as Love does - ForeverIt's simply the way the absence of your loved onemanifests in your heart. A deep longing accompaniedby the deepest Love some days. The heavy fog mayreturn and the next day, it may recede.Once again, it's...

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
My almost 2-year-old is the one I have to watch, as she does like her \'Treehouse T.V\' - a channel we get here in Canada which stricly offers commercial-free quality programs for pre-schoolers.
She knows how to turn the T.V. on, and will quite often try to do so. I would say she spends about an hour in total per day watching, as her attention span isn\'t that long as yet. And then perhaps another hour or so \'watching but not watching\'.... just playing around the living room while the older kids watch a show, or we catch a Seinfeld re-run or something in the evening (rarely these days!)
What I find a challenge when my 6 and 8 year olds watch T.V., is to steer them clear of the shows that I find inappropriate. Eg. Ghosthunters, certain cartoons that use a lot of toilet humour etc.
My 8 year old daughter is taking hip-hop dance at the moment, and thinks the music videos are pretty interesting. Well, I\'ve put an end to that, as I\'m not interested in my daughter picking up the messages those videos give out... women as sex objects.... themes of the songs... sex, sex and more sex... it\'s very disturbing to think of all the things our society is drumming into these poor innocent little minds... (This is made even more challenging by a 15-year-old daughter who lives with us half time, and is very interested in music videos!)
Anyway, those are just a few of my thoughts for now!
