I wanted to share a good experience with putting tubes in my son's ears... Since he was four months old, he would get constant colds and everytime following a cold or sinus infection he would get an ear infection. I would say in the neighborhood of a year he had at least 6 ear infections, so we made the decision to have the tubes put in the ears because we discovered that everytime the doc would look in his ears he would have fluid in the ears, and that was not normal. Something with the anatomy of the ear when they are little differs from when we are older. Anyway, we had it done and this past cold that he got did not turn into an ear infection for once, he is getting over the cold super fast and is less fussy in general since we had it done. Apparently it was also affecting his hearing because since now the fluid is draining, he is starting to say and repeat words and it is not coincidence that he started doing this after his surgery. Before he would mumble and grunt. Potentially if parents avoid this they can have permanent hearing damage if you wait too long. I just wanted to share a good story about the tubes...the only con to this is that he cannot get water in the ears, so washing hair has been a difficulty, so we gave him a buzzcut so all we have to do is run a washcloth thru his hair. Does anyone have any stories about this with their child or good/bad results from the tubes? Thanks!
