Dr. Oz shared the recipe for his "green drink" that he has every morning. It's:
2 handfuls raw spinach leaves
1 stick celery
1 medium cucumber (I peel it but leave the seeds)
1 apple (minus the seeds and skin)
The juice from 1 lemon
4oz water
and I think he added a pinch of ginger root.
Stick it all in the blender and blend well.
My son absolutely loves this. I find that the celery taste can be a little overpowering so I usually only add 1/2 stick. You can also mix and match other fruits and veggies in there. I love it with pears and bananas.
Crackers,
She sometimes is so hard to get to eat also.Even the things she loves!!!
It is there age and part of growing up and being interested in other things around them!
It also helps to offer the least favorite foods first, when the child is hungriest. I don't even have crackers out until my little guy has eaten a balance of other things.
While I don't make a battle out of it, I do make an effort to balance what he eats. If I want him to try his chicken but he wants a cracker, I tell him he will get a cracker when he's eaten two bites of chicken. It's important to say WHEN not IF ("if" makes it a battle). Of course then you have to stick to it. If he doesn't try the chicken, he doesn't get the cracker. I don't think it's ever come to that. I often repeat the terms to him, but he usually takes the two bites and gets the cracker.
Another idea: Offer cut fruit or veggies with dip (yogurt with fruit, ranch with veg). If the food might be a tough sell, I offer a dip with it and most of the time, my son eats it right up. It's food and play together.
Keep in mind that toddler portion sizes are quite small so she may be getting enough even though it does't look like much.
Good luck!
