3 1/2 year old suddenly afraid of the dark

Help! lol, my poor daughter is scared to death of her own bedroom after it gets dark. i need some ideas on what to tell her and what else to try (the nightlight doesnt work). i've already told her that the only difference is that the sun has gone to bed and the moon is watching out for us. i've tried giving her a few stuffed animals to sleep with, i've tried telling her that she has her brother with her (he's a year and a half and they share a room) to talk to if she needs him, and that im in the next room if she needs me.
im running out of ideas real fast though, and i feel so bad for the poor kid (she's really a sweetheart when she's not being a terror).
Anyway, thanks everyone! hope everyone's having a good day (enjoy those little kids, time goes too fast!)

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I don't know if books about night creatures would make things better or worse. Stellaluna is a great one for bats.
Good luck! I hope everyone gets some sleep soon!
Another idea, this one from my own childhood, is "Monster Spray." Cover a air freshner bottle with your own design including whatever your little one fears the most (for me it was bears and werewolves). It doesn't have to be elaborate, just something recognizable. Spray it at bedtime and tell her that it keeps all the monsters/scary creatures away. This can be repeated if she wakes up too.
Also, when my son started talking about "monsters" I reminded him that monsters can be friends, like Grover and Cookie Monster and Sully (from Monsters Inc.). I repeated this constantly for weeks. Now he reminds himself, "Monsters can be friends!" Good luck!
It may work for you too
