My daughter turned 18 on August 3rd. For the entire time she was in high school my BF and I have been to multiple parent/teacher conferences, paid for tutors, had so many conversations with her talking has become irrelevant. She pretty much failed most subjects and as a result has not graduated from high school. Because she never stepped up to responsibility in high school, I am doubting she will step up to the responsibility of getting a GED or attending community college - like she says she wants to do. About 3 weeks before her 18th birthday we found out she was dating a 34 year old man. I won't go into how that blow up went. When I ask her who's calling on MY phone she says "I don't have to answer to you. I'm 18" If I ask where she's going she says "I can do whatever I want. I'm 18" I tell her I don't want her dating a 34 year old man and she says . . . I bet you can guess!!! I have spoken to my therapist and she thinks maybe a mediation between myself, my BF and my daughter might be a good thing. I will lay out the rules and ask her to make a commitment to follow them. My dilemma is the obvious consequence of not following the rules. She has no where to go other than to this 34 year old. I have no siblings, my father has passed away and my mother is disabled. I do not have a close relationship with any of my cousins, etc so I am very scared. An added element to this is that the 34 yo is a Japanese native. I am so fearful that he will take her to Japan. I fear that he is controlling. I confronted him and asked what he had in common with a 17 YO (she was 17 when they started dating) and he said "I want to solve all her problems" Then he left a message on my voice mail saying that he fears that further communication with her family will cause her to want to kill herself. That message was horrifying. When I showed my daughter she merely looked down her nose at me and scoffed. She always has some excuse. Needless to say, I'm scared because I feel that she will not agree to live by my rules and I feel like my only choice is to tell her she needs to leave then. I just don't know what to do!!!

I miss traveling with my husband. Has anyone found a specific site regarding cruising for widow/widowers or any sightseeing trips. Not interested in being with couples and kids,,,I realize a cruise ship will have a portion size of families and couples, but perhaps they also put together a part of the cruise ship for groups of widows/widowers????
