I have a 15y/o step son that is 15 he was diagnosed with bipolar 4 years ago. He has been in and out of hospitals. He is in a hospital now for running away and behavioral problems. He is now going to a long term facility for further help. We have had 3 home visits with him. The first visit went great; the second visit was not without some problems. This last visit was horrible in my eyes. He does not want to do the chores that we ask of him. When we do ask him to do chores and if he does not have shoes, clothes etc: on it takes him 20 or 30 minutes to get them on because he wants to do other things first. He does not respect me at all. And show very little for his father. He has a very bad smart mouth even when you are being serious with him. We went to church yesterday and it was embarrassing because he would lay his head down between his legs or in his hands and sleep. Is this typical for a teen, part of bipolar or just no respect for us as parents or a behavior problem? Please if you have teens with bipolar and have this problem PLEASE help me understand this its driving me nuts and driving a wedge between my husband and I.
