Hi. I got a stomach virus last Monday in the wee hours of the morning. I vomited several times and had a couple bouts of diarrhea. My husband called in to work to stay home and take care of our two children, 5 y/o and almost 3 y/o. I stayed in bed for 3 days. The only day I actually threw up or had the diarrhea was Monday though, the rest of the days, I was just achey and exhausted. To get to the point, my almost 3 y/o apparentl caught it from me. But he hasn't been throwing up. He's just had the diarrhea for about 4 or 5 days now. I thought he would've just had it for the few hours I did and be done with it. He hasn't eaten hardly a thing in the last 4 days and I can tell by looking at his face that he's probably loosing weight. I called the docs office and they said that they don't recommend giving them anything at this age, that it just has to run it's course. Just to make sure he's not getting dehydrated. I've been giving him Gatorade, lemonade, even soda without caffeine, just to get liquids in him. He doesen't really want to drink anything. I've even turned to popsicles. He is peeing, so he's not dehydrated and I know there is no reason to take him in to the doctor, I just feel terrible for him. He's pretty much potty trained, but he does have an occassional accident with the diarrhea and it gives him a rash so bad. He cries for me to wipe him and put diaper creme on him. His little bottom is so red and chapped. I bought the Desitin Overnight creme that has 40 % Zinc Oxide in it which is the ingredient that the pediatricians have told me before is the important one. But it dosesen't seem to help all that much. And to top it all off, during the night while he and me and my husband are sleeping, apparently he has a bowel movement and it dries on his bottom and then when he wakes up, it's hurting him so much that he walks funny. Please, anyone tell me, is there something I'm not doing that I could be? Anything that any of you have found that really helps. I've tried giving him pudding, crackers, etc to help get something in his stomach, but he's just not interested. How much longer will this last? I just hate to see him in misery. Thank you in advance for any replies and advice. Please keep us in your prayers. God bless.
