I haven't had the first pedi appt yet, but they gave me a little booklet (along with 5,000 other things) when I left the hospital, and the booklet says something about giving the baby 3 ounces of water with a tiny bit of sugar in it once a day, and not less than an hour before a regular feeding. Has anyone ever heard of this? I can't imagine water hurting, but he is still so little (only 6 days!) and the last thing I want to do is upset his little tummy. He is already drinking 3 oz of formula at feeding time. The hospital recommended that because he is a bigger baby and was almost 2 weeks late. I know not to believe everything I read, but where the booklet came directly from my pediatrician's office, I don't think they would recommend anything that wasn't good.
