Parenting kids who struggle with perfectionism

Hi everyone. I'm a nurse and child development researcher. I write about parenting and healthy living. Here is an article about How Parents Can Help A Child Who Struggles With Perfectionism. Thanks!

Do you have any advice for childern that dont listen, and have selective hearing? How do I get my son to understand and listen to my needs? I have recently been diagnosed with a chronic illness and I dont have as much energy as Id like to have. I do as much as I can but I have a cut off point. My son understands this to a point, but he will push certain issues to get what he wants, I am finding this highly frustrating to the point where I have to go to my room as I am so angry with him and i dont know how to deal with it.

So sorry u r dealing with all these things. Boys often have difficulty listening. Michael has a website and several books about boys and their listenIng diff. He says to speak to them at eye level, speak in their left ear bc they hear better in the left ear. Also uou can try speaking in a whisper to force him to pay attention. The main thing is to be as consistent as you can. I have type 1 diabetes and I know it's diff to be consistent when you have chronic illness. I hope these ideas help. Thanks for reading my article.

Thanks alot I will definately check out the websie and try out the stratergies you have suggested.

    I have cancer

I had to have a lung biopsy, and I have cancer. A very rare form that doesn't have any standard treatment. There just isn't a lot of case history for this. It is epithelioid hemangio endothelioma. The cancer support group doesn't talk every day. I can understand why. I'm waiting for the oncologist to call back for an appointment, and will hear in the next few days. Who knew. Ha!

    Support from family

It's so hard dealing with pain especially when you don't get any support from the person who your supposed to be closest to. So hard when your trying to deal with pain and that person treats you worse than the pain. Having hard time understanding why. unless you are having a good Day you are treated like crap and they make you feel worthless.
