At her center, they use only "positive discipline". So, no time outs, no taking away things like recess or snacks or anything. Basically, she uses disctraction a lot.
When her kids are getting restless and acting out, she gets them to do something physical. She uses things such as;
having them "hold up the wall". She gets them up and says "oh no! the wall is falling down! you have to help me hold it up, push as hard as you can!" and they push against the wall for awhile;
she also will distract them with something tactile like play doh. It lets them use their hands in an appropriate way;
she also always tries to get them to use their words to express their feelings, they can tell her verbally or even write them down.
Not all of these things will work with all kids, but they may be things you can try. Hope this helps!
