I have been on xanex.25 mg 4x a day for about 2 and a half years. It helped alot the first year or so, now it seems like I am just taking a headache pill they do not seem to be as effective anymore, I am not getting any better at all. My doctor refuses to up my dosage and refuses to wean me off, saying that it is the only medication he can think of that I dont react too/hallicunate on or does not interfere with my bp, cholesterol, thyroid medications I take daily. I saw a phychiatrist twice whom recommened different meds to try ( reacted on them all) then he closed his practice, my doctor sent me to another, went once just for an evaluation, set up an appointment which I missed due to a bad panick attack that day, he closed my file because I missed an appointment I couldnt believe it. My doctor has my name "out there" for close to a year now with no phychiatrists available to take me at this point. I have read alot of postings about the negatives of xanex, people being hospitalized, seizuring if you stop cold turkey, more addictive than heroin, I am panicking thinking that I am causing grave harm to myself. I would love to hear from other people whom are on xanex or came off it.. just some advice of what to do or not to do anything would help. Thanks!!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I am not afraid of taking these kinds of meds because the truth is, I will probably have to take them for the rest of my life.
If I can get off of them, all the better.
YOU can get off without being hospitalized or seizing. It's called titration/ You slowly come off of the medication, with no problems. I've done many of times. Feel at rest. You're not on herion. =)
Maybe you can try and get some kind of public assistance to help you with your Dotor visits itf you fall into the low income bracket. There are also smaller clinics, not sure about your paticular area, that offer low-cost visits so that you can see a Doctor on a sliding scale program.
Check with your local state and goverment offices. There are many different programs that may help you.
All my best to you!
