Started about 3 yrs ago - but gradually progressed to be a HUGE problem.
The smallest thunderstorm will send my heart racing. I scan the sky for potential twisters, listen for high winds, etc. I feel rediculous and very alone.
It all started with nightmares of tornadoes, tsunamis, etc. Now, I am afraid in my waking hours. I need help. I hate feeling this way and feel very foolish.
I can rationalize till the cows come home, but just a minute later, I forget all about those sane thoughts and am back to staring at the forming clouds in the stormy sky.
I could really use some support on this. Something to read about someone else who suffers from this phobia, did it start out of no where?, any treatments other than drugs?

I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
Molly - please explain that process once more? I took it as - touch index finger tip and thumb tip together. Do same with next finger and go through all four. DO with both hands? LOL, sorry, I really will try anything at this point!
The facts remain most funnel clouds never touch the ground and most tornados are very short lived and most have considerable warnings with all the new technology.
This probably won't help with your panic much, but whenever you are feeling anxious on the approach of these events try relaxation therapy along with music and aroma. These are proven to help. Some of the best music for anxiety seems to be along the lines of "Secret Garden, Yanni, Kenny G., and I found another called "Budda Bar" collection. These all are relaxing and can take you away.
Good thoughts and happiness,
